The Silent Hunt & Wilderness Skills
This unique expedition is a deep immersion into ethical hunting, wilderness safety, and connection with the land. It is designed for those who seek skill, humility, and meaning, not adrenaline, by integrating certified survival training with the ancient practice of harvesting.
The Silent Hunt: Intuition, Rhythm, and Respect
We explore the hunt for black bear, geese, and ducks; animals that teach distinctly valuable lessons:
● The Bear: Teaches patience, intuition, and deep listening. It is a meeting with presence itself; powerful, aware, and never to be taken lightly.
● The Waterfowl: Teach rhythm, movement, and timing. They demand calm precision and respect for the cycles of migration, weather, and flight.
Every harvest is guided by principles of ethics, conservation, and full utilization. We hunt only in regions where responsible, government-regulated harvest supports a balanced and healthy ecosystem.
Beyond the Hunt: Reciprocity and Skill
What we practice is more than taking an animal; it is learning to stand still in a world that always rushes. Hunting, when done with care, is an act of reciprocity and relationship. We will practice traditional skills throughout the journey, including:
● Reading wind, tracks, and signs
● Stalking and camouflage
● Field dressing and full-use processing of the animal
● Foraging for wild rice, mushrooms, berries, and greens to expand our meals
● Understanding the cultural and spiritual context of traditional hunting
We eat what we hunt, preparing and sharing the meat together. All remaining meat is carefully packaged and donated to local families or Native communities, ensuring nothing goes to waste.
Wilderness Safety & Survival Certification
To ensure proficiency and safety in the remote environment, this expedition includes intensive, certified training delivered by the survival school:
● WSS Levels 2 & 3 (In-Person): Delivered primarily during the first week at the cabin, covering shelter, fire, water procurement, and emergency signaling. (Completion of the required WSS1 Online Course is mandatory prior to arrival and included in onboarding).
● Wildlife Awareness & Predator Safety: A critical half-day course delivered on Day 1 to prepare for safe wildlife encounters.
● Remote First Aid (20 hours): Vital skills training delivered during the remote waterfowl phase to manage injuries far from external help.
● Land Navigation: A half-day focus on proficiency with map, compass, and natural indicators, integrated with continuous animal tracking practice.
By the end of the expedition, participants will have a foundational knowledge of the personal safety triangle.
The Expedition Structure
The journey moves in two distinct phases:
Phase I
Cabin & Bear Hunt: We base ourselves at the cabin. Mornings are dedicated to intensive WSS training (completed by lunch), followed by afternoons/evenings spent hunting black bears from blinds. Time will also be allocated for fishing from shore or from boats.
Phase II
Remote Camp & Waterfowl Hunt: We transition to a remote area using canoes, boats, or quads, setting up a simple camp with tents and hammocks. Waterfowl (ducks and geese) are hunted at dawn and dusk. Survival skills training (Remote First Aid, Land Navigation) occurs between hunts.
Licensing & Shooting Requirements
We guide all participants through the necessary license and paperwork processes. However, accuracy, calmness, and respect are the foundation of every shot. We are strict about shooting proficiency and ethical standards to prevent unnecessary suffering.
Experience in traditional or instinctive bow shooting is mandatory (or proficiency with a firearm). We can supply firearms upon request.
